ANTIPODIUM AW2014 : TIMES NEW ROMAN

London Fashion Week

Ok, so I suffered last saturday from the horrid cliche of #bloggerproblems, in which I found myself with an awesome view of the catwalk, but paired with a shutter setting on a DSLR I couldn't change! SO when in doubt, use the trusty iPhone! Pictures are a bit blurry, but i'm sure you get the idea!

The collection ('Times New Roman') began with lots of black & white, monochromatic feathers sewn into skirts & vests, worn with fitted dresses & sweeping jackets. Renditions of Ancient Greek and Roman statues & relics were printed onto blouses, together with fitted daffodil yellow skirts. More vibrant primary colours swept into the show next, with a sporty feel being embodied into a quilted jacket, an "A" fronting a sweater in an American sportswear kind of way. One of my favourite looks was the metallic gold skirt paired with an unashamedly pink sweater, but it was the heels that got it for me: grown-up arched stilettos, with white feathers falling completely over the toes, probably not the perfect companion for a rainy London cobbled street, but with a shoe like this, practicality doesn't even enter into the equation!

TATA NAKA AW14, IN THE SENATE ROOMS AT THE ROYAL ACADEMY

Oh, am I so glad that I discovered the beauty of Tata Naka this season at London Fashion Week! Still recovering from a bit of the lurgy, so I didn't manage to capture all the looks, but I absolutely fell in love with every single one I saw - prints & patterns, blues & yellows & greens, set within decadent rooms at  the Royal Academy. The shape & structure of some of the pieces seemed almost colonial & African in descent, especially the vibrant yellow dress which hung over the knees & was decorated in what looked like the cotton flower. Braided & twisted hair pulled away from the face let the womanly nature of the collection shine through, with tailored jackets & waistcoats, plus the cutest metallic shoes, fringed with colourful tassels.

CASLAZUR AW14 - HOSTED BY MISHKINS

The Caslazur AW14 collection was presented over at Mishkins restaurant on Catherine Street in Covent Garden, just a few minutes away from the hub-bub of Somerset House. I had a quick chat with the lovely Cassie, the designer behind the collection, who was wearing one of the enviable white & pink bomber jackets that I'm sure lots of people will be itching to get their hands on! From a distance, the geometrically arranged patterns adorning the clothes look botanical in nature, but Cassie revealed that a closer look would uncover a rather cheeky display of naked nipples! This fun, subtle approach to the print was offset by some more classic pieces in the collection, a wraparound belted winter coat, a gorgeous off-white-to-violet ombre evening gown.  In a nod towards such classic cuts, Cassie is taking the label to more red-carpet events & glamourous nights out on the town; recent spots have included actress Ophelia Loveibond, plus an appearance at last night's BAFTA's!

The clothes were worn at Mishkins, who rather wonderfully put on some gorgeous diner-style food: mini-burgers, rolls, & milkshakes topped with striped straws. Pink bombers & long evening gowns with comfort cuisine? Pretty perfect combination if you ask me.

WE LOVE ORLA!

Some days, I'm proud to live in a rainy nation, & it's days like this, when it's raining cats & dogs over at the Orla Kiely AW14 presentation! Misty raindrops & glowing bokeh painted onto the back wall, the sound of rain pitter-pattering over cobblestones, the girls made their way around the stage, peering around lamp posts, using newspapers to shelter their hair, & on one occasion, cradling their puppy close to their coat <3 (yes, a real live puppy, as if I couldn't love this show any more as it is!)

Pastel pinks, rich blue velvet dresses, camel coloured overcoats, & sequinned cat sweaters, it was like an extension of Orla's SS14 collection based on Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, brought to the rainy streets of Old London, with a bit of Breakfast at Tiffany's thrown in.
