BARCELONA BABY!

..How I spent my New Year's break: sunny Spain, fresh seafood, garlic prawns, walks outside without freezing off one's extremities, Gaudi-tiled patterns, one unfinished cathedral, strolls in the port by the water, stone statues sitting side by side looking out into the sea.

MY YEAR OF ABUNDANT WEALTH: DESPATCH #5

Meet Angela*. She’s a giggly, bubbly schoolgirl, who requested I took her photo. A lot of the girls here love posing for photographs - & of course as soon as the camera turns on them, it’s hand on hip, & out comes the pout. Tyra would be so proud, there’s an excellent example ofsmizing going on here**.

* Probably not her real name. A lot of people play around with a couple of names: an African name, & then another (usually Western) name. One of the kids who helps out at The White House bar & restaurant calls himself Gilbert. I love the playfulness of it!
** Reference to America’s Next Top Model lingo: smiling with the eyes.

For this, & other stories, take a look at my latest post from Ghana, here!

HEADING TO HEATHROW: BUDGET vs BUSINESS

{scarf 2.ooGBP from Primark, sweater 12.ooGBP, dress 25.ooGBP, both from New Look}

I'm currently packing for Ghana, how exciting! Mandatory requirement: don't pack anything expensive! So, living on & wearing a budget for 3 weeks, this is what I've chosen to wear to the airport (where I have to meet the requirements for the business lounge: closed-toe shoes & dresses below the knees!) I'm pretty pleased :)

{You can get more detail on the packing process, here!}

If You're Going to San Francisco...

Over Easter break 2012, my little sister is getting married - in Vegas, baby!

As a result, I've decided to take an extra 4 days & fly somewhere on the West coast before heading to Vegas. As you might have guessed, I think San Francisco is currently top of my list! Would be great to hear of any recommendations/areas to stay/blogger meet-ups/foodie places/things to do in the evenings by oneself - book readings, jazz clubs etc..

I've never gone on holiday by myself - & whilst this is hardly a Gap Year in Borneo, I'm super excited/scared in a good way!
