SOPHIE'S BIRTHDAY, ONE ALDWYCH

We celebrated Sophie's birthday in truly gluttonous style, with a 3 course brunch & unlimited prosecco at One Aldwych! I had a beetroot, goats curd & hazelnut salad for starters - decorated with flowers of course - followed by lemon chicken breast & roast potatoes, followed by the ultimate dessert to end all desserts: an unlimited supply of sweets, as far as the eye could see...

Strawberries & Cream

how's this for a cute canape?!

hollow out some strawberries, fill with cream cheese mixed with icing (powdered) sugar to taste - I used 8 tablespoons per 1 tub Philadelphia - & top with Oreo crumbs..

Sweet & simple!

(this idea was from the Guardian newspaper, who found it on Pinterest originally - i can't find the original source, but if you know it, i'm happy to link to it!)

Castle & Cake

I promised you pictures of cake, right?! Victoria Sponge, Black Forest Chocolate Sponge with redcurrant jam, Poppyseed Cake, Carrot Cake....

& Bodiam Castle, a rather magical place, one of the few castles left in England that still has a working moat (it also had plenty of bats!)..

Cake Break!

Sneak peak of some upcoming photos of a trip into the English heartlands - well, Tunbridge Wells anyway.. It was a day involving cakes & a castle.. more pics to follow soon..

PS. I just came across lunapic, I really think it's the answer to all my screen reolution editing problems! - you can't use large docs, but i shrink most of my pics into blogging (or facebook!) format anyway..

Taste London

This week has been one of utter gluttony, topped off with an afternoon spent at the Taste London food festival in Regents Park: sooo much quality food & produce, Jamie Oliver doing a cooking demo involving a guinness cheesecake, spotting Gary Rhodes at the back of his stall, & getting a signed book by one the master chefs Michel Roux jr (it's a family business for the Roux clan: Gavroche was the first restaurant in Britain to gain 3 Michelin stars, & of course they developed the classic Roux sauce..)

I also picked up some lovely olive oil from this place, perfect for cooking with, but delicate & strong enough for dipping breads in..

One day, I swear I'll wake up fat.
