EDELINE LEE AW16

IMG_5696

Edeline Lee always works with such lovely colour pallets for her collections (she maintains a long-standing collaboration with Little Greene since being inspired by a refurb several years ago of her own home). This season she stuck to more neutrals, with creams, off-white whites, lined silhoutted macs & pretty pastels on patterned dresses. Tees & dresses hung loosely with oversized pockets, paired with high waisted pleated pants, a touch of the 1920s mixed in with the geometrics of the Swinging Sixties. Oh, & how much does the model in the last pic look look like a young Angelina?!

EDELINE LEE SS15

IMG_3303

Stepping into Edeline Lee's world for SS15 was like stepping into a paintbox, albeit a very grown-up one, with a delicately pretty concoction of colours. Every season, Edeline comes up with something completely different & refreshingly original, & this season was no disappointment. Inspired by the process of restoring her own Victorian house in East London, the designer brought together the 3-pronged relationship between art, interiors & fashion, & assimilated her colour palette, architectural structure, & the cut of the dress into a collection of very feminine, empowering pieces. Each look worked around a basic tone, adding a triangle of white here, a stripe there. The set was beautiful, with models captured in their own boxes, their own worlds, the viewer voyeuristically peering into a living room, or a kitchen. Within each room played a digital loop of the collection's video campaign on a small television set, essentially a replica of the presentation itself, as models smaller & smaller explored sets teenier and tinier. The touches of magical realism extended to a ceiling suffocating with pink roses, a prettiness bursting to escape. The colourful intensity & childlike containment reminded me of Alice having fallen down the rabbit hole, a world within a world within a world, enticing, bewitching & naively intoxicating.

EDELINE LEE SS14

Glass of Fashion

Earlier this week I was lucky enough to get to go to the Edeline Lee SS14 presentation (thanks Sophie!), particularly as it was one I missed during the hectic days of fashion week. The looks were showcased in a set of side-by-side white rooms, floating black balloons & bunting strung up from corner to corner. With the dulcet tones of an a cappella choral singer haunting the room, the girls drifted slowly & pensively amongst one another & we got to see the beautiful collection that was on show. Mint green sleeves with monochromatic check board drop-waist skirts in silk made up one look, whilst others were in soft grey, heavier dresses, pleated & with ikat blue & white designs breaking up the block colour. One thing I love about Edeline Lee is that the clothes are just so pretty & so wearable; I'll definitely be coming back for more next season!
