JOHN SMEDLEY SS16

IMG_5212s

I was invited to preview the John Smedley SS16 knitwear collection over fashion week: delicate fine knits in muted cream & grape tones, certainly classics with a twist worth investing in! They have that luxe, timeless feel yet retain a unique singularity unseen elsewhere. I also loved how the sweater below was tied a few inches below the shoulder, it's like a reinvention of the preppy sweater-around-the-neck-tie, most recently followed by the more literal sweater-as-a-scarf knot; this reincarnation seems both more refined & enduring!

Finally getting around to posting some of these photos from the gorgeous Paul Costelloe SS15 presentation last season. Beehives, brocade, & heavy white-soled plimsols were the order of the day, with backcombed hair, bows, & cinched-in waists modernised by oversized capes, chain linked bags, & platforms. And isn't that cornflower blue just gorgeous??

FAUSTINE STEINMETZ SS15

IMG_2728

Faustine Steinmetz SS15 was all about denim, redeveloped shredded white shirts, brilliant white platform sneakers, bed hair & natural makeup. The sporty aesthetic mixed in with a 90s vibe, blues, teals & the odd touch of dark blue denim. Initially the presentation seemed a little intimidating to shoot, but I kind of like how the dramatic shadows & shadowed cheekbones turned out! Stark, but entrancing.

ALL WHITE NOW

2 1 3

skirt - asos
blouse - h&m
trainers - gola x liberty
sunglasses - dior
tote - lfw ong-oaj pairam
watch - michael kors
ring - accessorize

I love the concept of an all-white outfit, especially out of the summer season, it gives a clean, high-end look (although of course it's pretty hard to maintain - cut to friday afternoon during fashion week where i'm in the loos at Somerset House with some Vanish, scrubbing to remove some red lipstick!) I fell in love with this skirt when I first saw it on Juley over at her blog, & so with a hop, click & a jump, had it delivered just in time for fashion week this season. I'm hoping to transition it into the cooler months with some funky ankle boots, either keeping the white theme going, or maybe with some cut-out black chunky heels.. watch this space.

TOGA ARCHIVES SS15

IMG_3249

Toga Archives SS15 produced a wonderful collection of strong pieces,  showcased within the gorgeously grand-cum-industrial background of the Renaissance Hotel at St Pancras. The first half of the collection glowed with neutrals, golden yellows & intimidating whites, bookmarked with black pants or swinging maxi overcoats (NB, apparently there were two halves, Sophie at La Fashion Folie ended up capturing the second half, so between us we covered full ground!) Silhouettes were bold and beautiful, empowering with glimpses of unabashed femininity such as the angled, pleated hem, or the pointed bralette. Accessorising was key, as ears were emblazoned with oversized cuffs or geometric shapes trailing over the neckline, and reflective silver hair ties captured the sleek ponytail of the Toga woman, keeping the whole look neat & on track. Brushes of pink or yellow colour were boldly washed over the eyes whilst lips were kept nude, the colour rediscovering itself again on a gauzy yellow pocket here, a pink & black sandal there. The subtle intricacies of a hand-stitched, crocheted sleeve, or a ruffled, gathered neckline continued to emphasise the idea that this collection was the product of a particularly detailed and thought out aesthetic, epitomising what the designers mused to be "fragments, reflection, floating."

EDELINE LEE SS15

IMG_3303

Stepping into Edeline Lee's world for SS15 was like stepping into a paintbox, albeit a very grown-up one, with a delicately pretty concoction of colours. Every season, Edeline comes up with something completely different & refreshingly original, & this season was no disappointment. Inspired by the process of restoring her own Victorian house in East London, the designer brought together the 3-pronged relationship between art, interiors & fashion, & assimilated her colour palette, architectural structure, & the cut of the dress into a collection of very feminine, empowering pieces. Each look worked around a basic tone, adding a triangle of white here, a stripe there. The set was beautiful, with models captured in their own boxes, their own worlds, the viewer voyeuristically peering into a living room, or a kitchen. Within each room played a digital loop of the collection's video campaign on a small television set, essentially a replica of the presentation itself, as models smaller & smaller explored sets teenier and tinier. The touches of magical realism extended to a ceiling suffocating with pink roses, a prettiness bursting to escape. The colourful intensity & childlike containment reminded me of Alice having fallen down the rabbit hole, a world within a world within a world, enticing, bewitching & naively intoxicating.
