I found these photos whilst rummaging through my dropbox uploads, the sunshine of Cartagena (top 3 pics), followed by a recent pic of Barcelona over New Years. The tinted translucent pipes belonged to the opera house on Cartagena's port, a rather magnificent looking building that enclosed a mirrored walk-through passage..

GOLDEN LEAVES AND IKAT

Catching the last sunbeams of summer over dusk yesterday, the light was just beautiful, & I'm so pleased with how these photos turned out! Initially I planned this outfit around the ikat-print jacket, going for a kind of easy, casual look that one of the Supers might wear running errands around town (Elle or Claudia, for example). But then I found this necklace in the most unexpected of places yesterday - a chemist! So cheap, & it looks like maybe J Crew crossed with Anthropologie - plus I feel that the leaf is a great motif for the coming season. Bring on the golden dusks, the falling leaves, the cooler nights, & the madness that is London Fashion Week!

On a Budget!

Presently, I'm trying especially hard to be a spendthrift. In many ways, I guess this should kind of always apply! But there will always be times of splurging & times of scrimping. In tune with the latter, here are a couple of my latest buys:

This gorgeous orange "doctors bag" from Zara. The shape & structure are classic, & the orange leather reminds me of the (staggeringly more expensive) Hermes.

The 2 rings - skulls & arrow - £4 for the two of them, from h&m.

Headmasters - free Oyster card* cover with a mirror inside, how handy! Headmasters also offer an introducer deal: 50% off a haircut when you introduce a friend! I get my hair colour done with them too, & couldn't recommend them highly enough. (They also have seasonal half-price colour sales as well, bonus!)

I also hope to upload my photos from the AMAYzing Tatty Devine party this weekend: in celebration of their new collection inspired by the colours & motifs of India, they put on a rather fantastic/crazy launch which involved makeovers, Indian street food, & Holi paint throwing!

If I don't check in before Easter, happy holidays, & happy spending/scrimping!

Style It Up: Winter Accessories!

It can be pretty tricky trying to retain a bit of style & pretty in the Winter season; last night, Sophie & I were getting excited about the release of the provisional show schedule for London Fashion Week a/w 2013, & having never been in the Spring, she advised me that it's all about the little touches: the bags, the heels, the accessories... The good thing about the little things is that they don't have to cost a paycheck: I found the hair-tie from River Island (after being inspired by this one) for only 3.00GBP! Here are a few of my current favourites, photographed on a new scarf (I love the neon stripe in it!) from h&m..

Find What Works

I tried on sunglasses at duty free in the airport, in Galeries Lafayette in Berlin, in h&m, in Zara.. & I've been on the lookout for some Alexander Wang since forever (scrap that, 2 months), but since I hadn't come across any IRL, I went for a new pair of Ray-Bans (RIP my old faithfuls). Classic Wayfarers, the black shades seemed a little harsh for my colouring (despite my protestations to the contrary, my friends persuaded me of this, thankfully!) So I went for a matt tawny brown. Love them. 

Statement costume bib necklace below, from the bargain bin at h&m. I kind of like the fact that a few stones are missing, the stripes of black cotton across the empty plates give a cool geometric effect with the rounded stones!

I'm currently very much into buying belts 2 sizes too large so that they have plenty of length to loop over..

Nashville Dressing Room

I took this series of photos with the idea of a 'backstage' take on a Nashville, Tennessee, or maybe Midwestern dressing room: ambitious decadence, floral nostalgia, the American Dream.

{Of course, these were actually shot in my bedroom, & my chandelier is a 20GBP find from Urban Outfitters half a decade ago; the glamour..}
