FEATHERS AND WEDDINGS

I'm back from Ghana!

I attended one of the loveliest weddings this past weekend - more pics to follow soon! - but here, a snap of my newly redlier hair, with a feather hairpiece by Accessorize, and sunglasses by Karen Walker.

'Tis The Season To Sparkle!

Sorry to be misleading, but no, my jewellery isn't from Cartier! I just snapped this shot on the way home yesterday, looks like a pretty magical dolls house, no?

Had plans to edit a blogroll this eve, but Page Elements isn't loading - anyone else on Blogger experiencing this..? Sad face.

Twirl For A Curl

earrings by Accessorize, jumper by Mango

My shorter hair style is still growing on me (SORRY, it had to be done!), so I decided to emulate the people who originally inspired my shorter length, Gwyneth & Olivia look fab with their hair curled, so sweet & stylish. Usually, my hair is deadeningly, numbingly boring, iron-straight, so the curls give it a little bounce. I'm still practising the technique, but so far have it down as follows:

1. Don't use freshly washed hair. Spritz with water so it's a little damp.
2. Take large sections of hair at the front & curl with a tong, leaving in place for a few minutes.
3. Once each section is curled, pin them up on the crown of your head, blast with a cold hairdryer, & leave whilst you're getting the rest of yourself ready.
4. Just before leaving the house, unpin, loosely separate the curls with your fingers, & spray a lotta hairspray to keep the style in place.

Friday Night's All Right For Dancing

dress by h&m, stag necklace by Accessorize, shoes by Reiss, nail polish: Bleu Mysterieux by Bourjois
Ju Ju's & then Raffles in Chelsea. Where I didn't spot Keira or Kate (Knightley/Duchess, respectively), but I'm told that on occasion they boogie on that very same dance floor.

Armed & Dangerous

bracelets, blouse & belt from h&m, rings & shorts from Topshop, necklace from Accesorize, earrings by Banana Republic
As per the Glitter Girls' guide to arm candy, a watch from Michael Kors would complete this look.. I choose ~ figuratively of course ~the rose-gold edition, so perfect..

..something to save my pennies for, a timepiece is an investment, after all..

I'm currently very much into buying belts 2 sizes too large so that they have plenty of length to loop over..

Yellow Meadows, Tennis Socks

dress, unknown (local to Tooting); cardigan by Benetton; shoes by Truffle; necklace by Accessorize; socks by Umbro

Photos papped quickly with the iphone before off to work for the day.

Had been searching frantically for some stocking popsocks to wear with the brogues. Tried on the tennis socks, & rather liked the end result of seeing the double stripe peep slightly above the shoe, just below the ankle.

The dress & shoe were both lucky finds from local shops.

It appears that Summer may have finally arrived..

Nashville Dressing Room

I took this series of photos with the idea of a 'backstage' take on a Nashville, Tennessee, or maybe Midwestern dressing room: ambitious decadence, floral nostalgia, the American Dream.

{Of course, these were actually shot in my bedroom, & my chandelier is a 20GBP find from Urban Outfitters half a decade ago; the glamour..}

~ blouse from Topshop, skirt h&m, belt & ring Accessorize//
~ leafy trims, picked from the garden, in tumblers that balance only when filled with liquid//
~ stilettos from Hobbs, feather hairband from Accessorize//
~ mirror from Monsoon//
~ baked sweet potato with cream cheese, crushed black pepper, & olives//

Three-Two-One (& a half)

3 petit-fours at The Nightingale, London. The Nightingale has a New York sort of decor, with a French touch to the cuisine. These biscuits were buttery & delightful, with the softest touch of chocolate or apricot filling.

I walk a lot: I won't be separated from my Oxford brogues, they're invaluable. I'm killing with kindness the pair on the left (from Office); holes are appearing on the soles, but I'm afraid to take them to the cobbler for fear he will say they're too far gone. The brown/white pair are from Primark.

Frippery, frivolous, completely impractical, & I love it. I recently came to the revelation that so many of my bags are too roomy to be dainty enough for a little light dinner out, or an evening stroll. This one, from Topshop, combines the scallop cut - a pattern I also adore on clothes such as a blouse trim or a short cut-off - with a pretty lilac/grey shimmer of material. The ring by its side is also by Topshop.

Anchor Me!

umbrella, silk blouse, & cardigan, all by h&m. necklace from Accesorize, jeans by Topshop.

Somehow, I managed to avoid the on/off thunder storms that blessed London today, perhaps someone is watching over me.. Earlier in the week, I made the cataclysmic mistake of attempting to stroll across Hungerford bridge one lunchtime, in the bracing wind & the rain, a choppy Thames beneath me. Alas, poor 'brolly broke, inside & out & spokes threatening everywhere; it was practically Homeric (as in, the stuff of myths & legends &cet &cet). So when I came across this cute anchor-print umbrella from h&m on my return, I would have been foolish not to purchase..

This outfit is somewhat inspired by The Cherry Blossom Girl (aka Alix); the colours, prints, patterns & photography skills she employs are simply ethereal.

This week, I have also mainly been having fun creating GIFs! The ones below were created on blingee. Seriously, you will spend so much (useless) time here! I would be interested to hear of any other GIF-creating sites that people can recommend: that cartoony logo in the corner isn't too endearing, plus my images lose their clarity when I upload...

Got The Blues

cardigan: Benetton, necklace: Banana Republic, t-shirt: Primark, skirt: h&m, belt: Accessorize.
The blues are because you're getting fat & maybe it's been raining too long, you're just sad that's all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid & you don't know what you're afraid of.
Holly Gollightly, Breakfast at Tiffany's (Truman Capote)

Good job we ain't got those reds then.

Blue is such an easy colour to wear, I find it easily surpasses an all-black elegance (despite our early reference to Miss Gollightly, perhaps the greatest purveyor of the little black dress - apologies H. de Givenchy, we'll pay homage another time...) Tonal blues offer a soothing paintframe to work within, highlighting the prettiest of porcelain rosy cheeks, emphasizing a deep tan, or contrasting with some fantastic African prints.
.
I picked up this amber & lily stone necklace when browsing yesterday: Banana Republic (Europe, & possibly America too) are currently hosting a fantastic long weekend wherein everything comes with a 25% discount. Bonus! I love that this piece ties with a lambskin leather bow rather than the usual silk ribbon, & the flow of tan to amber to orange is genius. Such costume jewellery seems hard to source at the moment, they all look so alike. I look forward to wearing this with a deep golden silk t-shirt, or over a chocolate/peach 1940s dress that I have hanging in my closet. Or indeed, the other purchase I made at the same cash register: a cream-coloured, simple T, with a miniature black elephant print. Ready for Safari.

Did you know that Sunday will be the first time this year the sun sets after 6? 2 minutes after, to be precise.

The Girl in the Red Dress

Valentino does red lace so well, no? Inspired by Ginnifer's efforts, I went for this red dress from Topshop that has a more vintage feel to the cut. Will probably bottle out & wear black or nude colour stockings when I wear out, but trying it with the tan socks & scuffed oxfords looked kind of cool, more of a modern oriental aesthetic?
